The thing only cost $20 at the local K-mart, but I got to thinking, "Is there a coffee maker you can load with a bag of beans, which is also loaded with water, and which you can press one button to make one cup of coffee at a time? Well, my search on the internet led me to all kinds of coffee makers which allowed for the one serving at a time, but which required you to buy the pre-measured bags/cups/ (whatever you called the pre-measured stuff)from the company which makes the machine. Meaning, you can only by that coffee maker's brand of coffee, which by the way, is not in bean form, but ground form. So, I started looking at these machines with built in grinders. I love that it removes the messy task of grinding the beans first then putting them into the filter. It's very nice to pour the beans in, push a button and in no time at all you have an excellent cup of coffee. There are a few more parts to wash, but it is well worth the time and hassle to be able to enjoy the flavour of a freshly ground cup of coffee. Got this coffee maker to replace my old Krups thermal carafe maker since it also had the grinder. I don't do a lot of whole beans, but usually around the holidays I find it a nice change. Anyway, starting on day one I realized that you really had to watch how you poured the coffee from this carafe because if you tilt it too much it drips out and down the side while you are pouring. OK. A little concentration and focus is needed. No big deal. Fast forward 18 months and let me tell you how wonderful (note the sarcasm) it is to find coffee all over the counter top and floor. So I figured I must have done something wrong. Completely cleaned and decalcified. Then, just to make sure I'm not overfilling it, I only filled it to the 8 cup mark (note: I use the carafe to pour the water in so I'm also visually seeing plenty of room in the carafe), but the same thing happens. The coffee overflows out of the filter. Good luck if you purchase this one! |
