I have used APs from D-Link, TrendNet and ZyXel and this baby from Ubiquiti is by far the best I've encountered. The Trendnet and ZyXel wouldn't even reach a laptop on the other side of a wooden stud/sheetrock wall 40 feet away. I mounted the flying saucer looking Ubiquiti device on the ceiling of the second floor, the highest point in the house other than the attic. I tested the coverage by walking around the house with my iPad and I couldn't believe the result I got. We have a 5000 sq ft wood frame house and coverage was full signal 3-bar in every corner of every floor including the full basement. I haven't tested it outside but my guess there's substantial coverage around the house too. The 27 dBm really makes a difference - I was most impressed with this device. After only a few hours of using this product I think I'll start recommending this product to all my clients. The setup is so simple, I love the web interface. Their software makes it easy to manage one or many of these APs. You can change IPs and setting and don't have to worry about losing the management console. This thing has an awesome built in guest mode. Basically you have a separate guest SSID and it gets the same IP addresses, but it blocks all traffic on that network. So you don't have to have the hassle of a separate network and the guest users can't access any devices in that network.. The consumer must, while connected to the wired network, run a configuration program installed from a CD-ROM to set up the wireless access point's network name and password for the first time. This configuration program requires that the Java 6 runtime be present on the machine. My laptop had both Java 6 and Java 7 because I am a software developer, and that should have been fine. But although the program installed itself, it failed to start and would not even bring up a screen after the install.
